Nonprofit Toolbox set for Thursday, June 23

Our next Nonprofit Toolbox talk is set for Thursday, June 23, 7-8:30PM at the Bellevue Library. This talk is free and open to the public.

I AM totally excited the featured guest speaker Heidi Witherspoon. Heidi is a copywriter for Tamara Wilson Public Relations here in Seattle. She is fantastic, lively, and enthusiastic. You will enjoy her discussion.

I will also be joined again by Patricia Birgen-Redwolf of Redwolf Strategies, who will be talking up organizational self-assessment.

My talk will be about the fine art of getting your staff and board to sign off on blogging.

Community Stories

Here is news about a neat new program under way by Seattle Channel.

Straight from the press release:

"Community Stories: A documentary series for the Seattle Channel"

SEATTLE - The Seattle Channel announces the new documentary series Community Stories as part of the station's ongoing programming that seeks to engage all citizens in the civic life of our city.

Seattle is a city of many people and many stories; stories that can communicate our differences but also bring to light our similarities. Community Stories is a new television series committed to presenting the stories of our city's diversity, a compelling and proactive reflection of a wide array of Seattle's community members and groups.

Community Stories will be character driven and well-told short documentary pieces about the inspirational people, the relevant issues, and the cultural traditions and rich histories that make up our many communities. These television profiles will highlight our citizens through stories consisting of personal interviews, slice of life episodes, and insightful portraits. The Seattle Channel is asking individuals, community leaders, community associations, neighborhood centers, ethnic groups, new Americans, seniors and young people to tell their stories for television."

Art With Heart Aids Youth Victims of Katrina

"Working with the Arts Council of Central Louisiana, Art with Heart has created a special fund which will help professional mental health counselors use expressive arts to meet the special emotional needs of the youth traumatized by the aftermath of the disaster. This will help bridge the gap between the overwhelming number of youth affected and the limited number of therapists available."

4,300 mile trek to raise funds for MS

From Safeco Field to Yankee Stadium in a wheelchair
[PR] 

In June 2006, Carlo Magno, the Director of The Spirit of Hope, will travel from Seattle to New York in an electric wheel chair to raise awareness of handicap accessibility and raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. Magno will be accompanied by his three-legged dog Katie.

Magno has received support from Gov. Christine Gregoire of Washington, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.
